Frost was in helping us. \u00a0A lot of people wouldn&#8217;t take a bunch of eighth graders seriously.<\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 10px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Rachel Kaplan.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\"><strong>What really impressed me was how much confidence Rep. Frost had while making his statement about Robert Goddard.<\/strong> \u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 10px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Amanda Schroder.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif; font-size: 14px;\"><strong>We actually visualized an informal meeting about Goddard Day[, but actually watched] the bill be engrossed! <\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 10px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Sarah Ducat<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif;\"><strong>Since I was a little kid, I&#8217;ve always wanted something exciting to happen in this town! \u00a0I also think it would make us proud because this happened because of us. \u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10px;\">Justin Pitz<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Over several years Auburn Middle School eighth graders were able to advocate and pass <span style=\"color: #800080; font-family: 'arial black', 'avant garde'; font-size: 16px;\">\u00a0Dr. Robert Goddard Day<\/span> in Massachusetts. \u00a0The prime motivator for the students was to find a way to have a day off school to celebrate this special man and local event that changed the world on March 16, 1926. \u00a0While this goal was not part of the legislation, students creatively shared their knowledge while finding ways to &#8220;escape&#8221; a traditional school day. \u00a0Everyone learned new empowering \u00a0&#8220;adult&#8221; strategies and skills to use the legislative process while having fun.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'arial black', 'avant garde'; Amorello and the Chester P. Tuttle Post American Legion contributed to the transportation fund to enable the 1997 field trip.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/windowonyourpast.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/1997-poems1.jpeg\"><span style=\"font-family: 'arial black', 'avant garde'; font-size: 16px; color: #800080;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">March 12, 1997<\/span><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: 'arial black', 'avant garde'; font-size: 16px;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/a><em><span style=\"font-family: 'arial black', 'avant garde'; font-size: 16px; color: #800080;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/windowonyourpast.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/1997-poems1.jpeg\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Auburn News<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/em>included these poems by Stephanie Barkus, Mike Bjork and James Donahue: <a href=\"http:\/\/windowonyourpast.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/1997-poems2.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1741\" alt=\"1997 poems2\" src=\"http:\/\/windowonyourpast.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/1997-poems2.jpeg\" width=\"463\" height=\"545\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With the successful passage of Robert Goddard Day, it was up to the succeeding classes to observe the day in an appropriate manner. \u00a0The following student designed two-sided flyer was sent to all Massachusetts middle schools in 1999.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/windowonyourpast.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/1999-FLYER-front.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1723\" alt=\"1999 FLYER front\" src=\"http:\/\/windowonyourpast.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/1999-FLYER-front.jpeg\" width=\"399\" height=\"310\" \/><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/windowonyourpast.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/1999-FLYER-back.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1722\" alt=\"1999 FLYER back\" src=\"http:\/\/windowonyourpast.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/1999-FLYER-back.jpeg\" width=\"422\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In 2000 students presented Gooddard Citizen Awareness Moments in a Town Crier format at the State House Gate, the State House Grand Staircase, Sam Adams&#8217; Statue at Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall by a total of 55 Auburn Middle School 8th graders. \u00a0The script was written by the entire Diamond Team.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/windowonyourpast.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/1998-hear-ye.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1720\" alt=\"1998 hear ye\" src=\"http:\/\/windowonyourpast.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/1998-hear-ye.jpeg\" width=\"256\" height=\"313\" \/><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/windowonyourpast.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000-FANEUIL-HALL.jpeg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-1724\" alt=\"2000 FANEUIL HALL\" src=\"http:\/\/windowonyourpast.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2000-FANEUIL-HALL.jpeg\" width=\"462\" height=\"273\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While this class celebrated Goddard&#8217;s achievements and women&#8217;s history, they were beginning the next major Democracy in Action Project to build a Skate Park for their community. \u00a0To involve the entire eighth grade team, and students of all ages, classroom brainstorming led to the creation of the <span style=\"color: #800080; font-family: 'arial black', 'avant garde'; font-size: medium;\">Auburn Boarders and Supporters<\/span><span style=\"color: #800080; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: medium;\">. \u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 14px;\">The entire class was involved in organizing the campaign to gather community support, raise funds and establish rules. \u00a0The concerns over time taken away from the usual\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
